Prince Charles’ Eco-Village Features EV Chargers In Every Home

Britain’s royals are a pretty forward-thinking bunch. Take Prince Charles – he’s planning a whole eco-village that will feature electric car charging infrastructure as a key element.

The eco-village, called Knockroon in East Ayrshire, Scotland, will consist of 700 homes to be built over 15 years. It will set out to prove that electric and hybrid vehicles work in rural communities, and the development will pre-install EV chargers in every home. And when you move into your new home in Knockroon, you’ll be automatically signed up for a diesel or hybrid car sharing program.

Located 40 miles from Glasgow and 90 miles from Edinburgh, Knockroonians can make it to either of the big cities on a single charge if they were driving a Nissan LEAF. But just in case, Prince Charles is planning to install a car charging station halfway between the Knockroon and Edinburgh.

Would you move to a town if its claim to fame was that it was eco friendly? Let us know in the comments section below.
